A New Enemy, Eh?
Donald Trump Wildly Swinging In A Political Moshpit
On April 25th (Tuesday) the Trump administration took aim at another country of little consequence to the US. Wilbur Ross has announced that we will tax Canadian imports to the US at the rate of "3-24%" according to The New York Times (24% says POLITICO) for softwood lumber; A tariff that will affect over $5 Billion in revenue. Donald Trump predictably voiced his repugnance likewise on twitter, where he stated that "Canada has made business for our dairy farmers in Wisconsin very difficult" (The Canadian president addresses this claim), going on to say that "we will not stand for this. Watch!"(sic). The New York Times also reports that these tariffs will be applied "retroactively", meaning that Canada will be receiving a bill reaching to a past date, to be determined by the Commerce Dept. Of course, the begging question is "Can Trump coerce Canada to subsidize his request any more than he was able to force Mexico pay for his border wall? The Canadian foreign minister has already announced that Canada would "fight back" she stated, against "tariffs from President Trump's administration that it finds unfair".
