4 States Held Primaries On Aug 14th; The Results

Picture
Vermont, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Connecticut all held primary elections on August 14th, deciding in each the candidate they felt should represent the party, and the people, in the subsequent November general election. Here are the results from the most relevant campaigns...

Vermont

Picture
I asked Hallquist after the polls opened on the 14th what she felt her chances were of pulling off a victory, and moving on to the general election. Her response was a confident one; "Great... We're going to make history tonight". And make history she did. Christine Hallquist won the Democratic primary by a sizable margin, nearly doubling the turnout of her nearest contender, and will move on to challenge the incumbent Republican Governor Phil Scott.
Bernie Sanders likewise secured the most sound victory of the evening, and 95% of the vote for the Democratic Primary for VT Senate. Sources from within the Sanders campaign, however, have confirmed that it is Sanders' intent to deny the nomination, and continue to run as a registered independent, leaving the Democrats with no nominee, and leaving the Republican nominee to contend one-on-one with Bernie Sanders in the November general election.

Minnesota

Picture
One of the relevant victories for progressives this primary election was the race for Minnesota's 5th Congressional District, Keith Ellison's district, where Ilhan Omar will represent the Democratic Party, and due to the political landscape of the district, the people of the 5th district in November. Ellison himself secured a major victory as well, despite looming allegations of misconduct.
Unfortunately, Reid Rossell did not do as well, securing only a meager fraction of the vote in MN's 4th district.

Connecticut

Picture
Ned Lamont easily secured the Democratic nomination for the governorship of Connecticut, winning a truly massive portion of the vote, and will face off against Republican Bob Stefanowski, who narrowly won his primary for the GOP nomination against Mark Boughton.
For the Connecticut Senate seat, Christopher Murphy ran uncontested for the Democratic Party, and will face off against Republican Matthew Corey in November.

Wisconsin

Picture
Wisconsin's 1st CD, unlike most primary elections, was a battle-ground district among progressives, with both candidates claiming to support collective bargaining, a higher federal minimum wage, and Medicare-For-All. Although Bryce managed to secure the endorsement of Bernie Sanders, some have cast doubt on his campaign due to several arrests on Mr. Bryce's record. More substantively than that, The Center for Responsive Politics reveals that Bryce has received over $18,000 from Alphabet Inc, which owns Google, over $12,000 from AT&T, and tens of thousands more from PACs. Nevertheless, on policy, both candidates were progressives with progressive support. After the dust had settled, Bryce beat Myers, but not without a fight. Cathy Myers was outspent almost 6 to 1, yet kept closely behind Bryce as the results came in.
