The Military Industrial Complex Is Expanding While The Middle Class Shrinks
On July 27th, the weapons manufacturing organization "Raytheon" reported a net sales figure of $6.3 billion in the second quarter alone, reportedly up by 4.2% from the last quarter. This is no doubt due largely to Trump's proposed 10% increase in military spending. In fact, the GOP is pushing it's fiscal limits in that regard, and the proposed increases are on what Politico describes as a "collision course" with budget caps backed by the GOP.
This has emboldened companies such as Lockheed Martin to invest in high-tech military upgrades, no doubt to protect the innocent civilians on the receiving end of incessant military bombardment (That's a lie). The unprecedented increase in net sales reported by Raytheon was not mourned as the side effect of warfare capitalism, but rather touted as a victory by CNBC, who even credited Trump for the success, although the funds have yet to be allocated. The increase passed by the House on the 14th are greater even than the $603 billion proposed by Trump, already a 10% rise from the current amount allotted for spreading democracy and death to the middle east.
While imperialism is subsidized to the tune of $550 billion, Americans here are suffering, and both of those massive problems go largely unreported by the mainstream media. In fact, when it is mentioned, it is in the name of putting you back to sleep, such as a report by the New York Times, published in April, which adds that "a shrinking middle class is not necessarily cause for alarm, if the reason for the contraction is that more people are moving up the economic ladder..." The hubris required to even make that statement is dumbfounding, and even Politifact acknowledges that 99% of new generated wealth is not going to proletariat, but rather, as Sen. Sanders stated, to the economic top 1% of Americans. Why is it that we could be so bold, and so ignorant, as to claim that the US cannot "afford" the level of health care enjoyed by the rest of the industrialized world, but not question the massively inflated war-for-profit machine?
